Experienced advocacy
One of the great things about my job is I never know the next challenge that I'll get to take as an advocate for my clients. Just as no two people are the same, no two cases are ever the same. That said, experience matters--experience in cross-examination and trial techniques, experience in complex litigation, and experience in listening to my clients and putting myself in their shoes. For over a decade I have been fighting in courts across Tennessee in both General Sessions and Criminal Court, and I have developed a client-centered, holistic model of representation that gets results. Whether you are facing a misdemeanor or serious felony, I am here to fight for you.
I recently had the opportunity to speak with Steven Hale, an excellent reporter from the Nashville Scene, about the Metro Police Department's use of "knock and talks"--a tactic designed to search the homes of citizens without a warrant. For a great breakdown of how this operates in real life, check out Steven's article:

drug casesOne of my greatest strengths as an attorney is challenging unlawful searches and seizures pursuant to the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution and Article I, Section 7 of the Tennessee Constitution. I have over a decade of experience in successful defense in drug cases. In addition, I have authored a search and seizure outline that has been used by criminal defense attorneys across the state and lectured on search and seizure practice to both law students and fellow defense attorneys.

dui defenseI represent clients in both misdemeanor and felony DUI offenses in Nashville and beyond. DUI law is ever-changing, and I've received extensive DUI defense training on the latest DUI-specific trial skills, jury selection techniques, and scientific litigation challenges through the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys DUI training seminars. I am currently involved in a class-action challenge with some of the other leading DUI specialists in Middle Tennessee attacking the TBI's flawed calibration protocol for Nashville's presently used breath test machine, the EC-IR II.

serious feloniesI have extensive experience in representing clients charged with serious felonies including sexual offenses, robbery offenses, aggravated assaults, arsons, complex drug conspiracies, and homicide charges. Intensive case analysis dictates the specific investigative techniques that must be used to combat each serious felony offense. I create and implement case-specific litigation strategies that develop the defense theory and theme. I often utilize an entire defense team made up of other lawyers in my office to engage in case analysis and trial preparation.

appealsI have an active appellate practice that has resulted in successful appeals before both the Court of Criminal Appeals and the Tennessee Supreme Court. Legal writing and appellate oral argument has become one of my greatest passions as an attorney, and I have authored briefs and argued complex constitutional and scientific issues on appeal. I have successfully challenged
cases that have led to numerous reversals and dismissals of unlawful convictions from issues including pretrial severance errors, illegal searches and seizures, and unconstitutional jury instructions. |
